The physiological process of forming new blood vessels from pre-existing vessels that were formed during vasculogenesis is known as angiogenesis. It perpetuates the growth of the vasculature by processes of sprouting and splitting. The embryonic formation of endothelial cells from mesoderm cell precursors and from neovascularization is termed as vasculogenesis. It is responsible for developing the first vessels in the embryo while the rest of blood vessel growth happens during angiogenesis.
